Joan Ellen Colwell

Joan Ellen Colwell, 85 of Kellersburg, Pa died early Tuesday morning October 17th at the Back to Basics Personal Care Home in Dayton Pa. after a brief illness.

Born on January 8th, 1932 in Kellersburg, she was the daughter of the late Lester A. and Eva L. (Hetrick) Mohney, both lifelong residents of Kellersburg.

Joan was a member of the Kellersburg Evangelical Missionary church and was of the Protestant faith.

She was married on April 1st, 1949 to Eugene H. Colwell of Widnoon, Pa. spending their honeymoon in Niagara Falls; Eugene preceded her in death in 1993.

She began her married life as a homemaker, lovingly raising her children and later in life working as an LPN at the Brookville Hospital and doing private duty for the elderly.

Joan was a free spirit who had a zest for life, loved to travel and the great outdoors.

Hunting and fishing were one of her greatest joys in life but perhaps the greatest of all was cooking meals, baking and celebrating holidays with family.

Joan and her husband Eugene took many excursions across the country including the Black Hills, Hawaii, and Alaska but her most magical place that she loved to go was Disney World Florida.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Eileen (Mohney) Barrett of Kellersburg, Mrs. Ruth Ann (Mohney) McKay also of Kellersburg. One Daughter Cathy M. (Delvin) Yeager of Lithia Springs Georgia, 4 sons, Jeffery G. (Terry) Colwell of Kittanning, Pa, Dennis L. (Tammy) Colwell of Deanville, Pa, Mitchel T. (Helen) Colwell of Distant, Pa. and Dr Kelly L. (Alice) Colwell of Boardman, Ohio. Along with 20 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren

Two sons also preceded Joan in death. William D. Colwell (Infant son) and Kerry W. Colwell of New Bethlehem.

Visitation will be at the Alcorn funeral home Hawthorne, Pa Thursday the 19th from 10:00-11:30 for family.

And family and friends will be received from 1130-1:30 with funeral service to follow at 1:30 pm, Reverend Randy Hopper officiating.

Interment will be in the Duncan Cemetery Widnoon, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Duncan Cemetery in Widnoon Pa, via the S&T bank in New Bethlehem, Pa.
