Joann (Kitchen) Grantz

Joann (Kitchen) Grantz of Punxsutawney, PA., went home to be with the Lord on January 28, 2016.

She was born on July 29, 1938 in Home, PA, one of ten daughters and two sons of the late Sam and Edda (Gunther) Kitchen.

On February 13, 1957, she married Wesley V. Grantz, together they had four children. He preceded her in death on May 13, 1948.

Joann was a very loving mother, daughter, grandma, sister, and a great friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She worked at Country Villa for about thirty eight years, and had also worked at AM-PM Personal Care Home, and Loree Footwear.

In her spare time she liked to bake, bird watching, and fishing. One of her favorite past times was walking with her daughter Becky and the dogs, especially her Yorkie named Emma Jean, who was her best friend.

Surviving relatives include two daughters, Susan Butterworth; Rebecca Hockenberry and husband William L.; two sons, Wesley “Chuck” Grantz and wife Susan; Tim Grantz; all of Punxsutawney; six sisters, Sandy Watson of Virginia Beach; Rosella Ballman of IN; Helen Galipo of OH; Nancy and husband Rev. Arthur Hugill of Mahaffey; Joyce Rummel of Virginia; one brother, Richard Kitchen and wife Pam of LaJose; ten grandchildren, Jason and Shawna Grantz; Timothy and Jenny Butterworth; Jesse and Brittany Hockenberry; Kelly Spade; Anthony and Aron Spader; and Kyle Sutter; six great grandchildren, Oliva Lake; Laif Hockenberry; Colton and Heath Martz; Logan and Kaylee Spade; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters, Louise Wagner; Betty Harmatta; Dee Gaynor; one brother, Charles Kitchen; and a daughter-in-law Jessica (Sutter) Grantz.

Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2016, and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 1, 2016 at the Grace United Methodist Church officiated by Pastor Doug Dyson.

Interment will follow at Lakelawn Memorial Park, Reynoldsville, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joann’s name to the Alzheimers Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave, FL 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
