John Anthony Tribisondi

John Anthony Tribisondi, age 89, of Onaway, died on Friday January 29, 2016 at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey.

The son of Joseph and Caterina (Accurso) Tribisondi, John was born in Reggio-Calabria, Italy on May 30, 1926 and was very proud of his Italian heritage. He married Rose Marie Krinock on January 25, 1953 in Detroit. They celebrated 34 years of marriage at the time of Rose’s death in 1987. He later married Frances Restifo on December 2, 1988 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Onaway and in 1992 John and Fran moved from Onaway to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

John was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. Serving during the 2nd World War, John was aboard the U.S.S. Montpelier, a Cleveland-class light cruiser that saw service in several campaigns in the Pacific. Through the years, John went to all of his naval reunions, traveling to a different state each time to attend. He also had a memorable visit to the nuclear submarine, Montpelier, named after the ship he served on in the war. A lifetime member of the VFW, John was a former Post Commander for the Mahoning Valley Post #2076 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania and was a current member of the George Garms #5857 Post in Onaway.

In 1969 John moved from Detroit to Onaway and began working in the maintenance department at the UAW Education Center with his area of expertise being in heating, cooling, and refrigeration. A motivated man, John also worked for himself doing refrigerator and furnace repairs. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed hunting and going to gun shows with his good buddies, Carl Space, Bud Leach, and Bert Elton.

Family was very important and John made sure strong family values were instilled in his children. With their young family, John and Rose would pack up the car and travel great distances to visit family in other states, creating fond memories to be treasured for a lifetime. Devoted to his Catholic faith, John was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus.

Surviving John is daughter, Judy Tribisondi (Scott Bishop) of Onaway; sons, Mike (Kim) and Ken (Laura), both of Onaway, John (Shelley) of Millersburg, Joe (Dawn) of Cheboygan, and Ed Tribisondi of Utica; wife, Frances Tribisondi of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren; as well as two sisters, Angela Perna of Shelby Township and Margaret White of Milan.
