John F. Laughner

Laughner JohnJohn F. Laughner, age 85, Treasure Lake, DuBois, PA passed away peacefully in his sleep at Christ the King Manor on October 2, 2015.

He was born May 30, 1930 in Franklin, PA; he was the son of the late John B. & Vera D Laughner.

He graduated from Franklin High school in 1948. He met the love of his life, Harriet Yvonne Sassman, while attending Indiana State Teachers College. He and Harriet were married July 8, 1951.

He served in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant, during the Korean War.

He, Harriet, and his two children lived all over the country while he enjoyed a 40 plus year career with Rockwell International. Jack and Harriet moved to Treasure Lake in the Late 1980’s, where they both enjoyed golf and many good friends. Not only was he an avid golfer, he was a lifelong Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan. He was an active member of the Treasure Lake Lions Club, receiving the

Melvin Jones Fellow Award for Humanitarian Services.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Harriet.

John is survived by two children: Cheryl Dixon of Edmond, OK and Brad Laughner and his wife, Sarah of Albertville, MN, a sister Janet “Jill” Sickles and her husband, Walt of Tampa, FL, two grandchildren, four great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and four grand dogs.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Goble Baronick Funeral Home.

The Treasure Lake Lions Club will conduct services on Thursday afternoon at 5 p.m.

A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 11 a.m. from the Goble Baronick Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Felt officiating.

Full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard from the funeral home.

Interment will be in St. Mark’s Cemetery in Emporium, PA.

The family would like to express their thanks to the kind and caring nurses at Penn highlands Hospice and Christ the King Manor.
