John “Jack” Brown Sr.

John “Jack” Brown Sr., 83, Treasure Lake, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at his home with his family by his side.

Born July 28, 1934, in Barnesboro, PA, he was the son of the late John and Ellen (Yasick) Brown.

On March 2, 1957, he married Wanda DeConna, also from Barnesboro. She survives.

John graduated from Barnesboro High School in 1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1956 and was stationed on the U.S.S. Canberra and honorably discharged in 1960. John retired in 1999 from Brockway Glass after 35 years of service, worked as an x-ray technician for both the Maple Avenue and DuBois hospitals, and had a fire extinguisher business.

For many years, John was very involved in the local fire departments. While in Barnesboro, he was the chief of Hope Fire Company for several years. After moving to DuBois in 1966, he joined several departments, including Sabula, Oklahoma, and 4th Ward. He was instrumental in starting the Treasure Lake Fire Company.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda; two sons, David Brown and John (Mary) Brown Jr; granddaughters, Jessica (Jason) Brown Runyon and Nicole Brown; and a great-granddaughter, Melia Runyon.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey (1991), and a daughter, Mary Ann (1957). He was the last member of his immediate family.

Friends and family will be received Friday, May 4, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Adamson Funeral Chapel, Inc. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 5, at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral chapel with Father Bob McKay officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the DuBois Area Honor Guard. Interment will be in Morningside Cemetery.
