John P. Havrilla

John P. Havrilla, 99, Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at home.

He was born August 23, 1917, in Adrian, a son of the late Mary (Bzinak) and John Havrilla.

On April 23, 1949, he married Stephanie (Mocek) Havrilla, who preceded him in death on December 28, 2008.

John served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 7th Army Air Corps and was stationed at the Schofield Barracks in Oahu, Hawaii near Pearl Harbor.

John was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church of Punxsutawney.

He was a 1936 graduate of the Punxsutawney High School.  John was an accomplished woodworker and photographer.  He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and was a Wren enthusiast He just enjoyed life and loved to make people laugh.  He was a member of the Saints Peter & Paul Church Choir and the V.F.W. Post 2076.  He was self-employed as a professional painter and carpenter.

Surviving relatives include four sons, Robert Havrilla and wife Elin of Fredericksburg, VA, Jack Havrilla of Punxsutawney, Dennis Havrilla of Williamsport, and James Havrilla and wife Amanda of Windber; nine grandchildren, Kathrin, Kristen, Dennis Jr., Reece, Ann, Gavin, Sarah, Cole, and Nathan; and a sister Marge Kippert of Covode.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Ann Dienes, and five brothers, George, Fred, Bill, Bert, and Richard Havrilla.

Friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m., Sunday, July 9, 2017, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A committal service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 10, 2017, at Calvary Cemetery with Father William Lascelles officiating.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Punxsutawney.
