Joseph Miles “Joe” Grube, 89, of Punxsutawney, died Monday, June 22, 2015, at Mulberry Square Elder Care and Rehabilitation Center in Punxsutawney.
Joe was born Nov. 19, 1925, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Harry Frederick “Fred” Grube and Elsie Dee (Stokes) Grube.
After graduating from Punxsutawney High School in 1944, Joe attended the Indiana State Teachers College (now IUP) in Indiana, Pa., and subsequently graduated from Edinboro State Teachers College with a bachelor’s degree in art education.
Joe was employed for many years at Pure Carbon Company, Inc., located in St. Marys, Pa., as both a lathe operator and as a member of the design engineering department.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Punxsutawney.
Joe was very talented in art and photography. He also enjoyed watching baseball and assembling model planes.
Joe is survived by a sister, Evelyn “Tillie” Phillips of Punxsutawney, as well as a nephew, eight nieces and their respective families.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Emma Jane Renner and husband Frank and Elsie “Sis” Gamble and husband Lee; a brother, Harry Frederick “Pay” Grube Jr. and wife Ruth; a brother-in-law, Kenneth E. Phillips; a niece, Rebecca Dee Grube; and a nephew, Robert L. “Gup” Grube.
Funeral arrangements are private and entrusted to the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
Interment will be at Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney.
Memorial contributions may be made in Joe’s memory to the First United Methodist Church or the Kipp Gallery, located in the Art Department of Indiana University of Pennsylvania (in honor of Joe’s favorite art professor, Orval Kipp).
