Josephine “Joby” Kendra

Josephine “Joby” Kendra, 95, of Rossiter, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at Penn Highlands Brookville.

She was born August 22, 1920, in Rossiter, a daughter of the late Gwendolyn (Parrish) and Carmen J. “Carbide” Serian.

On August 31, 1946, she married Carl J. “Kud” Kendra, who preceded her in death on August 15, 2002.

She was a member of the Church of the Resurrection of Rossiter.

Joby began her working career at a cast iron plant in Erie, PA while attending beauty school. She then opened her own beauty shop out of her home, which she ran for over 40 years.

She loved cooking and baking, she especially loved doing Christmas Eve Dinners. Joby also bowled in the women’s league at Findley Lanes and enjoyed shopping on Friday nights.

She is survived by two children, a daughter Becky Kendra of Rossiter, and a son Carl “Marty” Kendra and wife Tina of Rossiter; two grandchildren, Martin J. Kendra and wife Lindsay of Punxsutawney and Angie L. Davis and husband Clint of Punxsutawney; five great-grandchildren, Gabriella and Greyson Kendra, and Noah, Lakyn, and Clarissa Davis; two nieces, Vicki and Debbie; a Nephew Louie; a sister-in-law LaDonna Serian of Florida; and a cousin Mary Ann “Nan” Levy and husband Morey of Punxsutawney.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter Denise Kendra; a brother Louis Serian; three uncles, Bill, Joh, and Bob Parrish; and an aunt Elizabeth Pasarcik.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 5, 2016, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 6, 2016, at the funeral home with Pastor Maureen Seifried officiating.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Punxsutawney.
