Joy (Joyce) E. Carlson

Carlson JoyceJoy (Joyce) E. Carlson, 79, of DuBois, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2015 after a short illness.

She was born in DuBois on May 29, 1936 on her Dad’s birthday and was the daughter of the late Walter J. and Lydia (Schreiber) Faulkner.

Joy was a 1954 graduate of DuBois High School and was married in DuBois on July 5, 1961 to Robert E. (Tubb) Carlson who preceded her in death on April 2, 1991.

She was employed at Rockwell, Rola Jensen, the Ramada, the Courier Express and Sekula Signs.

She was preceded in death by her nephew, Walter (Wally) Strouse and is survived by her sister, Jean E. Strouse of DuBois, her niece, Dr. Wendy Strouse Watt (Mark) of Reynoldsville, her step-children George (Marsha) Carlson of Punxsutawney, Gervaise (Bob) Hinderliter of DuBois, and Bill (Caroline) Carlson of Port Matilda.

Joy enjoyed volunteering at the DuBois Senior Center, received recognition for her work there, as well as calling Bingo, and spending time with her two cats- Midnight and Perkins. Highlights of her life included time spent with her family and friends, laughing and making other laugh, music, dancing, trips to the casino, taking care of her house and yard, and feeding the ducks. She was a member of Trinity UMC in DuBois and had attended Tri-County Church of God. In the past, she enjoyed bowling and won many trophies and enjoyed the fellowship and Bible study with her lifelong friends in the Pansy Club.

She requested no visitation and a memorial service will be at a later date.

Memorial can be made to the Dubois Senior Center, Gateway Humane Society and Trinity UMC, DuBois.
