Judith “Judy” Anne Himes

Judith “Judy” Anne Himes, 82, of Big Run, PA., passed away in her daughter’s home in Emlenton, PA., on May 7 surrounded by her family.

Born on June 29, 1935, in Brockway, PA., she was the daughter of the late Glenn Elijah and Lula Amelia (McMinn) Whelpley.

On August 10, 1957, she married the love of her life, Dennis Wayne Himes, who preceded her in death on December 8, 2016.

Judy was a retired Home Economics teacher from Punxsutawney Area High School and was still getting together with fellow teachers for luncheons.

Judy was a very active member of the Punxsutawney First United Methodist Church and the Women’s Circle in the church. She was a past Eastern Star member and a past Worthy Matron of the Rainbow Girls. She looked forward every month to getting together with her Brockway High School classmates to eat and reminisce.

She loved her flower gardens, bells, and birdhouses, but most of all, she loved her family. She spent many years attending her grandchildren’s many school activities and enjoyed spending the holidays and birthdays with all of her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Scott D. Himes and his wife, Diane, of Jeanette, PA. and Beth Anne Fisher of Emlenton; her grandchildren, Emily A. Stump of Indianapolis, IN., Rebecca J. Fletcher and her husband, Blaine, of Big Run, Laura N. Stump and her boyfriend, Chad Anderson, of Wexford, PA., Kenneth S. Himes of Jeannette, and her grandpup, Puffin. She is also survived by her brothers, Chester C. Whelpley and his wife, Sherry, of Beaver Falls, PA. and Jerry Whelpley; her sister, Lois J. Dress of San Francisco, CA.; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who she loved all dearly.

In addition to her parents and husband, Judy was preceded in death by her brothers, Fred and William Whelpley.

Friends and family will be received at the Deeley Funeral Home in Punxsutawney on Wednesday, May 9, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the Punxsutawney First United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services for Judy will be held at the church following visitation on Thursday morning with Reverend Paul Ritchey, Pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will be at Wildwood Cemetery in Brockway.
