Kane, ECC to Meet for AML Girls’ Title


KANE, Pa. (D9Sports) – The AML Girls’ Championship game is set after both squads from the AML North came out on top in the AML Semifinals Thursday night.

AML North champion Kane used a strong second half to down AML South runner-up DuBois Central Catholic, 57-33, while AML North runner-up Elk County Catholic went on the road and beat AML South champion Ridgway, 40-28.

KANE 57, DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 33

KANE, Pa. – A night after scoring her 1,000th career point, Kane junior Ella Marconi had another strong night with 20 points and eight rebounds in the Lady Wolves win over DCC.

Kane (22-1) led by 10, 26-16 at halftime, before blowing the game away in the third quarter outscoring the Lady Cardinals 26-7 in the third quarter.

Rachael Morgan added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Wolves with Hannah Buhl chipping nine points, six assists and five steals, Trinity Clark six points, 14 rebounds and three blocked shots and Emily Bucheit four points and four assists.

Maia Cogley paced DCC (9-14) with seven points.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 40, RIDGWAY 28

RIDGWAY, Pa. – Taylor Newton scored a game-high 14 points to lead ECC to the victory at Ridgway.

Mikayla Wilson added eight points for the Lady Crusaders (15-8).

Emily Fullem led Ridgway (12-10) with 10 points, nine rebounds, four blocks, two steals and two assists.

Josie Benniger and Christina Fullem each added five points.

REGULAR-SEASON GAMES

BROOKVILLE 46, DUBOIS 43

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Rallying from a six-point deficit with under four minutes left, Brookville completed an 11-win turnaround from last year with a 46-43 win over DuBois in a D9 League matchup.

Brookville, 6-16 last year, head into the postseason with a 17-5 record and the top seed for the upcoming Class 3A playoffs. The Lady Raiders will play either Moniteau or Karns City in the final at a time and date to be announced.

Three Lady Raiders reached double-figure scoring with Morgan Johnson at 13 points, Madison Johnson with 11 and Marcy Schindler with 11 points and nine rebounds. Lexis Hatzinikolas grabbed 14 points without scoring a point.

Ashley Hallowell led DuBois with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Olivia Johnson had seven points and nine rebounds.

DuBois led 21-16 at halftime with Brookville outscoring it 30-22 in the second half.

BOYS

PENNS VALLEY 38, CLEARFIELD 36

SPRING MILLS, Pa. – Logan Snyder scored 15 points to lead Penns Valley to a 38-36 win over visiting Clearfield in Mountain League action.

Jon Gates had eight points for Clearfield.
