Karol (King) Geer

Karol (King) GeerKarol (King) Geer, age 65, formerly of Brookville PA, most recently residing in DuBois PA, passed away at the McKinley Health Center in Brookville, PA, on Sunday, March 12, 2017.

Karol was born on June 22, 1951, to the late Bennett and Dorothy (Warrender) King, in Greensburg PA.

She graduated from the Greensburg Salem High School with the class of 1969, after which she began attending Clarion College working towards a degree in Library Science.

During this time she began waitressing at the 76 Truck Stop which was located off of the I-80, Strattanville Exit.

In 1972 she was serving a table when she accidently spilled coffee on a man. The accident turned into a date night, and a few short months later Karol married Donald S. Geer at the Jefferson County Courthouse on March 27, 1973; Don preceded her in passing on July 4, 2006.

After their marriage they got to work building their family. Karol continued working throughout raising her children, but she was careful to make sure she had time to be there for them. She worked the night shift most of the time so that during the day she could tend to her children.

At one point she worked for the Fuller Brush Company, but most would remember her from her time spent waitressing at Travel Centers of America, or more commonly referred to as the T.A. Truck Stop on Allegheny Blvd., in Brookville.

She also spent time working as a nurse’s assistant with the Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

Eventually illness began to take hold and she had to give up her jobs. Karol’s faith and devotion to Christ were very important to her. She was an active participant in the church’s that she attended over the years which include the Victory Praise and Worship Center near Roseville PA, the Flowing Waters Outreach on Main St., in Brookville PA, and most recently she attended the Trinity Chapel in DuBois, PA.

She loved reading her Bible and other Christian books. She enjoyed spending time with her Christian Woman groups.

She loved taking pictures of people and nature, most especially driving around and photographing the fall colors every year; she liked doing this so much that her family nicknamed her Kodak Karol. She passed her love for photography on to her daughter. She loved feeding the birds and she had bird feeders on every tree around her house. She also enjoyed cross stitch and other projects that caused her to work with her hands.

She was a wonderful woman who made the most of life, who loved the Lord, and loved her family. Karol is survived by 2 sons; Steven (Becky) Geer of Brookville, PA; Jason Geer of DuBois, PA; 1 daughter; Gretchen Geer of Glen Allen, VA; 2 granddaughters; Sienna Geer, Jade Geer; and 1 grandson; Braden Adams.

She loved all of her brothers and sisters-in-law, which include Donna Geer, Carole Anne (Dave) Murdock, Kimberly (Randy) Graham, Cheryl Geer, Brian (Ruth) Geer, and Rod Geer.

She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held in her honor at the Trinity Chapel, 106 E. Scribner Ave, DuBois PA, 15801, on Saturday, March 18, 2017, beginning at 11:00am, and officiated by Rev. Charlene Lauver.

Interment will take place at the Bethel-Geer Cemetery, Warsaw Twp., Jefferson Co., PA.

Memorial contributions are encouraged to be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, or to the National Kidney Foundation.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home on Main Street in Brookville, PA.
