Lee Edward Thrush, age 88, Route 322 of the Roseville Area, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, as a patient of the Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital.
Lee was born on December 20, 1928, to the late Harry and Frona M. (Shick) Thrush, in Brookville, PA. Lee attended school in the Brookville area and shortly after his time there he joined the United States Army.
He served during the Korean Conflict and at the time of his honorable discharge, which was January 15, 1948, he was a PFC, serving with the HQ CO, 6th INF DIV, having received the World War II Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan.
On August 20, 1949, Lee married Mildred “Jean” (Geist) Thrush in Corsica, PA; Jean survives him.
He was a hard worker and dedicated to providing for his family. In his early working years, he spent time as a salesman for Cutco, which sold fine cutlery.
He made a transition into working as an Assistant Manager at Russies Market, which is where Mike’s Super Market is now located.
He then moved into working in the parts department for Ti-Brook in Brookville, PA and retired from that position at the age of 65.
But he was a man that liked to keep busy and in retirement, he drove transport cars for the DuBois Airport.
Lee loved the Lord and was an active and faithful member of the Roseville Independent Chapel in Roseville, PA.
His faith and church life were very important to him.
Lee loved to get out and go and with is son Brian they would travel to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Track to see the NASCAR, Indy, and CART races. They would also go to Cleveland and Pittsburgh to watch the air shows every year.
He made time to teach all his children how to swim, skate, and snowmobile. He was a great father and the way he brought up his family ensured that his children had beautiful and meaningful memories from their childhood to look fondly on throughout their lives.
Lee also loved being out on the roads riding his Honda Goldwing Motorcycle.
Jean took care of the home and that’s where she liked to be, so Lee made sure he spent plenty of time with her in that way as well.
As time moved forward and Lee’s capabilities began to diminish, he found joy in simply watching his favorite shows on television, or sitting in his garage observing the traffic go by. As a family man and a member of society, Lee led a full and meaningful life; he has earned his reward.
In addition to his wife, Lee is survived by his son Brian (Patricia) Thrush of Summerville, PA; his daughter Karen (Mark) McKinney of Brookville, PA; his son Kevin (Diane Paige) Thrush of Brookville, PA; his grandsons Paul Thrush, Aaron Thrush, and Scott (Erin) Songer; his granddaughters Andrea (Fiancé Doug) Songer, and Lori Songer; 4 great-grandchildren; Allie, Ashley, Luke, Jared; and many Nieces, Nephews, and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Lee is preceded in death by his sisters Mary Geist and Twila Haines; his brother Don Thrush; and 1 grandson, Zachary Thrush.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, March 11, 2017, from 2 – 4pm and 6 – 8pm, at the Roseville Independent Chapel, 3598 Route 322, Brookville PA, 15825.
A funeral service will take place on Sunday, March 12, 2017, also at the Roseville Independent Chapel, beginning at 2pm, and officiated by Pastor Jim Fillhart.
Military honors will be performed as part of the funeral service.
Interment will take place at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Cemetery in Corsica, Jefferson Co., PA.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, ltd, of Main St., Brookville, PA.
