Shaun Kaltenbach, who is currently attending Columbus State, was attacked and robbed on Spring Street while walking home from school around 9 p.m. Monday.

Kaltenbach told investigators that he crossed the street after he noticed three men in front of him. One of the men apparently followed him and that’s when the confrontation began.

Kaltenbach told Fox 28 Columbus, “I tried to run away, I told him I don’t have anything, I have 18 dollars. He said he didn’t care.”

Kaltenbach says he blacked out and doesn’t remember much after that.

“I just remember the one blow and a big bright flash and next thing I know I was in the hospital,” said Kaltenbach.

Following the attack, Kaltenbach was able to make his way to a nearby house where a woman called for help.

“Anybody that can sit there and beat another human being with complete disregard of what they feel and what their family feels you’re nothing but an animal,” said Kaltenbach.

Police say the case remains under investigation.
