Local Woman Hospitalized After Rear-End Collision on Route 119

HENDERSON TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A local woman was taken to a nearby hospital following a two-vehicle crash in Henderson County.

According to a report released by Punxsutawney-based State Police on Sunday, February 11, the crash happened on State Route 119 in Henderson Township, Jefferson County, at 1:36 p.m. on Saturday, February 4.

Police say a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander driven by 62-year-old William D. Chiplis, of Punxsutawney, was attempting to slow for traffic in front of him when he was rear-ended by a 2008 BMW operated by 20-year-old Benjamin M. Skarbek, of Punxsutawney.

Skarbek and Chiplis were not injured from the crash; however, Chiplis’ passenger—68-year-old Elaine A. Chiplis, of Punxsutawney—was transported to Punxsutawney Area Hospital for treatment of a minor injury.

Airbag deployment was observed in Skarbek’s vehicle.

All involved individuals were wearing lap and shoulder belts.

Police were assisted on scene by Big Run Fire Department, Sykesville Squad 8 Fire Department, and Sykesville EMS.

According to police, Skarbek was charged with a traffic violation.

This crash investigation is now closed, police noted.
