Lois Jane Smith

Lois Jane Smith, 92, of Hawthorn, died Thursday afternoon, April 14, 2016, at the Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

Born on April 22, 1923 in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Harry Dwight and Josephine Matilda (Getz) Welsh. On July 17, 1947, she married Robert A. Smith and he preceded her in death on June 9, 2005.

She attended the Felix-Mason Beauty School in Pittsburgh and became a beautician. She also worked for Rola Jensen. She attended the Hawthorn Presbyterian Church. She was the last surviving member of her family.

She is survived by two sons, Dennis L. Smith and his wife Linda and Robert A. Smith, Jr. and his wife Jody, both of Hawthorn, seven grandchildren, Dennis Smith, Jr. and his wife Jenean, Lori Garmong and her husband Brian, Salina Hetrick and her husband Clint, Alex Smith and his wife Samantha, Shannon Clouse and her husband Alan, Alicia Reitz and her husband Jeremy, and Andrew Smith, twelve great grandchildren, Gale Garmong and his wife Katy, Garrett Garmong, Lauren Smith, Leighann Hetrick, Brielle Smith, Braden Smith, Claire Clouse, Mason Clouse, Owen Clouse, Iris Reitz, Manny Reitz, and Livy Reitz.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Mae Welsh, and an infant, and a brother, Harry E. Welsh.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 16, from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, at the funeral home with Pastor Roger Snyder officiating. Interment will be in the Hawthorn Cemetery.
