Lois M. (Swanson) Leksell

Leksell LoisLois M. (Swanson) Leksell, 94, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, September 19, 2015, at Wellington Heights.

She was born July 30, 1921, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Beulah (Henry) and Bernard Swanson.

On January 16, 1940, she married William R. Leksell, who preceded her in death on September 18, 2009.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Punxsutawney where she served as a Deacon and an Elder and was also a Sunday School and Bible School Teacher.

She worked as a waitress for twenty-nine years for at the Anchor Inn, Finley Hotel, and the Army and Navy Club. She also served on the election board for thirty years.

She was a lifetime member of the Friends of the Library and a charter member of the Historical and Genealogical Society, a member and chaplain of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a College of Reagents for the Moose. She loved bingo, reading, crocheting, fishing, hunting, bowling, and playing cards travelling, and driving through the mountains and hills of Jefferson County. She also loved walking in the rain when it was warm.

She volunteered for the hospital and senior center for many years and was a former Punxsutawney High School Band President.

Surviving relatives include six children, Patty Kniseley and husband Grant of Knox Dale, Connie Brocious and husband Terry of Dayton, Mary Catherine “Mikki” Passmore and husband Paul of Cochranton, PA, Sandy Hidinger and husband Bill of Sigel, Judy Heitzenrater and husband Bill of DuBois, and Debbie Eggleston and husband Bernie of Irwin, PA; twenty-eight grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; a sister Ann Manners of St. Mary’s, PA; three brothers, Don Swanson of Irwin, PA, Frank Swanson of Erie, and John Swanson of Allenville, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Marge Raybuck, Ellen Grube, and an Infant Christine Swanson; and four brothers, Gustav Swanson, Jr., Fred Swanson, Paul Raymond Swanson.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at the funeral home with Reverend Brett Swanson officiating.

Interment will be in Anita Community Cemetery.

Memorials contributions may be made, in memory of Mrs. Leksell, to the Punxsutawney Memorial Library or to the Punxsutawney Historical and Genealogical Society.
