On September 27, 2017, Louis L. “Lou” Woodring died following a very full, rich life.
Lou was born on July 13, 1930, to Helen and Joseph Blair Woodring in Reynoldsville, PA.
After high school, he served in the Air Force for four years then moved to the Washington area where he had a successful career as a salesman with Sterling Salt and Washington Flour.
He became a food broker and rose to the position of President of Randall and Associates in Columbia, MD.
In 1982, he purchased Quality Engraving & Design in Kensington, MD, a fledgling business that he grew to great success.
He retired in 1997.
Lou was a past president of the Silver Spring Jaycees, past commander of American Legion Cissel Saxon Post 41, past president of the White Oak Rotary, past commodore of the Rotary Yacht Squadron of the Chesapeake Bay, and a Mason.
He was a devoted volunteer at Joe’s Movement Emporium.
Lou was loved an adored by his family, friends, and neighbors.
An avid boater, he could fix just about anything, and became famous for the tomatoes and zucchini and other vegetables he grew in his garden each summer.
It was said that he never met a stranger and easily cultivated lifelong friends of all ages and backgrounds throughout his lifetime.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Martha McGee Woodring, daughter Melissa Rosenberg, son-in-law Jim Rosenberg, grandchildren Sam and Hannah Rosenberg, all of Silver Spring, MD; sister Janet Shobert of DuBois, PA; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers Bill, Jack and Joe; and grandson, Joey.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on October 14, 2017, at Hines Rinaldi Funeral Home in Silver Spring, MD with visitation at 10 am and service at 11 am.
Burial will follow at Union Memorial Cemetery in Burtonsville, MD.
