Louise Ethel Vasbinder

Louise Ethel Vasbinder, 84, of Punxsutawney, died Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Christ the King Manor.

She was born on January 22, 1930 in Langville, a daughter of the late Ellwood and Grace (Geist) Yount.

In 1949 she became the wife of Harry I. Vasbinder, he preceded her in death on April 1, 2005.
Mrs. Vasbinder attended the Grange Church of God.

She was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife. She was a selfless, hardworking woman that worked daily on milking the cows, farm chores, and most importantly, caring for her family.

She was a wonderful cook and baker, an avid gardener, and she enjoyed quilting.

Because Louise put her own education aside, to help raise her sibling’s after her mother’s early death, she was adamant that her own children were educated.

Survived by seven children, Shirl Smith and husband Bob of Big Run, Larry Vasbinder of Frostburg, Dennis Vasbinder and wife Louise of Reynoldsville, Helen Snyder and husband Dennis of Punxsutawney, Ernie Vasbinder and wife Linda of Oliveburg, Donna Martin and husband Brien of DeKalb, Illinois, and Steve Vasbinder and wife Belinda of Punxsutawney; thirteen grandchildren, Shawn Smith, Adam and Andy Vasbinder, Denny Vasbinder, Jr., Dr. Eric Vasbinder, Martin Snyder, Melissa Houck, Tabby Rebuck, Keith Vasbinder, Courtney Martin, Stephanie, Mark, and Thomas Vasbinder; twenty great grandchildren; one brother, Bill Yount and wife Ruby of Grange, one sister, Nina Smathers and husband Jake of Mahaffey.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, SFC Scott Smith, four brothers, Darl, Harold, Glen and Clare Yount, two sisters, Norma Burns and Bertha Dinger.

Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2014 and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Lakelawn Memorial Park.
