Mabel “Jane” Cunningham

Mabel “Jane” Cunningham, 78, Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at her home.

She was born May 26, 1939, in Philipsburg, the daughter of the late Naomi E. (Bean) and Robert P. Bush and was raised by her grandparents Mabel and Joseph Bean.

Jane was a member of SSCD Church and served as an usher, lector, Eucharistic minister and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

She was a graduate of Philipsburg High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Education Degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. From there she taught at Robert E. Peary High School in Maryland, Indiana Jr. High School, St. Catherine in Dubois, and taught in the GED program in Punxsutawney.

In 1972, Jane began her forty-year career at the Pantall Hotel. She began working as a waitress and took over management of the entire hotel facility until her retirement.

She was a member, past president, and woman of the year recipient for the Career Women’s Club. She also played French horn in the Dubois American Legion Band. She served on the Advisory Committee for Jeff Tech and was on the board for S.P.L.A.S.H.

She enjoyed living in Punxsutawney, gardening, and reading.

She is survived by three children, son Eugene Cunningham and wife Beverly of Castle Shannon, son Joseph Cunningham and wife Kelli of Orange, CA, and daughter Barbara Salapek and husband Keith of Colorado; two grandchildren, Brenton Cunningham and Ben Cunningham; and a brother Robert M. Bush and wife Dawn of Port Matilda, PA; two nieces, Naomi Minarchik and Maribeth Bush; and two nephews, Robert A. Bush, and Adam Bush.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Mason T. Cunningham.

Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 13, 2018, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 14, 2018, at SSCD Church with Monsignor Joseph Riccardo officiating.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Punxsutawney.
