Madalyn C. “Collie” Couser

Madalyn C. “Collie” Couser, 80, of Punxsutawney, died Friday, January 22, 2021, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born December 12, 1940, in Punxsutawney, the daughter of the late Eleanor M. (McCullough) and Frank B. Amundson.

She was first married to William J. Gaffney, Jr. in 1962. He preceded her in death in February of 1993. She then married Dyrk J. Couser in August of 2009, who survives.

Collie was a strong believer in the Lord. She studied the Bible on her own and lead Bible studies particularly on the books of Revelation and Daniel. She served as a Past President of the Women Aglow Christian organization.

She was a graduate of Punxsutawney High School and attended Flight Attendant School and worked as a Stewardess for Eastern Airlines.

Collie loved quilting and made over three hundred quilts throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed teaching her quilting to others and also enjoyed traveling and her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Dyrk, she is survived by three children, Billy Gaffney, Melissa Constant, and Brian Gaffney, all of Punxsutawney; four step-children, Kelli Tolle and husband Tony of North Carolina, Marci Crymes and husband Bryan of Maryland, Brendan Couser and wife Sherri of Punxsutawney, and Valri Acosta and husband John of Maryland; nineteen grandchildren, Nicholas and Kevin Constant, Brett Gaffney and wife Vanessa, Alex Gaffney, Cassi and Matthew Tolle, Ryan Crymes and wife Emily, Katie Prentice and husband Eric, Nicholas Crymes and wife Kaitlyn, Kristi Ford and husband Shawn, Jarred Crymes and wife Emily, Jordan Crymes, Ashley Wirgnoivcz and husband John, Austin, Dustin, Crystal, and Kendall Couser, and Alyssa and Jonny Acosta; thirteen great-grandchildren and one on the way; a brother, Eric Amundson and wife Vickie of Punxsutawney; and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Amundson of Punxsutawney.

In addition to her first husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Sean McConnaughey and a brother, Frank M. Amundson.

A private family memorial service will be held for the family at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

Interment will be in Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney.

Memorial contributions may be made, in memory of Mrs. Couser, to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
