Man Accused of Assaulting Woman in Jefferson County

PERRY TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Police say a man was arrested for assault in Perry Township on Saturday night.

According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, around 10:29 p.m on May 1, an incident occurred at a location Hamilton along Markton Road.

Police say 38-year-old Erik Kauffman, of Hamilton, engaged in a verbal altercation with a known 32-year-old female victim from Hamilton that then turned physical.

Kauffman reportedly pushed the victim then grabbed her by the hair with one hand and choked her with the other hand.

According to police, Kauffman was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.

Court documents indicate Kauffman was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Gregory M Bazylak at 8:20 a.m. on May 2, on the following charges:

– Strangulation – Applying Pressure to Throat or Neck, Felony 2
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

Unable to post $30,000.00 (10%) monetary bail, he was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.

A preliminary hearing for the case has not yet been scheduled.
