Man Accused of Choking Woman, Throwing Phone At Her Waives Hearing

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) – An area man waived his hearing Tuesday on charges related to an incident where he allegedly choked a woman and threw a phone at her head.

Court documents indicate one count of simple assault filed against 27-year-old Zackery Reinard, of DuBois, was waived for court on Tuesday, May 19.

The charge has been transferred to the Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas.

Reinard remains free on $20,000.00 unsecured bail.

The charge stems from an incident that occurred in Punxsutawney earlier this month.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, around 10:52 p.m. on May 5, Punxsutawney Borough Police were dispatched to a report of a domestic incident at a residence on Sycamore Street.

According to the complaint, the victim reported she and Zackery Reinard were fighting, and Reinard had thrown his cell phone at her head.

EMS were then called to the scene, and the victim was taken for evaluation of a laceration above her right eyebrow.

Police then spoke to Reinard. Blood was found on his hands and knuckles, and he was placed under arrest and questioned about the incident, the complaint notes.

According to the complaint, Reinard said he “snapped” and threw his phone at the victim “out of frustration.” He also reported he put his hands around her throat and pressed his thumbs into the front of her throat in front of two minor children.

Police also noted a “foul, rotting, garbage-type scent” coming from Reinhard’s apartment, saw “garbage everywhere, and dirt in the apartment,” as well as “piles of clothing stacked up that seemed to be dirty.”

Children and Youth Services (CYS) are being contacted for a follow-up on the conditions at the residence, as children reside there, the complaint indicates.

The charge was filed against Reinard through Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock on Wednesday, May 6.
