Man Accused of Driving Under Influence of Marijuana in Jefferson County

YOUNG TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Police say a traffic stop in Young Township led to a DUI arrest late Saturday night.

Around 10:48 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, Punxsutawney-based State Troopers initiated a traffic stop on State Route 36 near Poerio Road in Young Township, Jefferson County, after a silver 2008 Jeep was observed with the passenger-side headlight not functioning.

According to police, upon making contact with the operator of the vehicle, a 52-year-old Punxsutawney man, the troopers detected a faint odor of marijuana coming from within the vehicle along with other clues of possible drug impairment.

The driver was then asked to step out of the vehicle and was given a number of field sobriety tests.

Police say the driver displayed numerous clues of impairment during the tests and was then placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI.

He was transported to the Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.
