Man Accused of Passing Three Forged Checks at Local Businesses

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. (EYT) – A 30-year-old man allegedly passed three forged checks at businesses in Rimersburg and New Bethlehem.

According to court documents, the New Bethlehem Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against Scott Elliot Payne Jr., of Wilkinsburg, (Allegheny County).

Payne is facing the following charges:

– Forgery – Unauthorized Act In Writing, Felony 2 (three counts)
– Bad Checks, Misdemeanor 2

Court documents indicate the case is active, awaiting a preliminary hearing.

According to a criminal complaint filed by New Bethlehem Officer Daniel G. Clark Jr., the following incidents were reported:

– On September 14, 2017, a check in the amount of $744.08 was cashed at Tom’s Riverside in Rimersburg. It was written out to Scott Elliot Payne Jr. from Eat’n Park but had been returned as altered/fictitious. Eat’n Park managers stated that they do not and have not had an employee by that name. Tom’s Riverside managers stated that Payne had cashed the check then called after it was cashed and asked if he could pay the amount back; however, Payne did not pay any amount back.

– On October 24, 2017, a check in the amount of $758.92 had been cashed at Tom’s Riverside in New Bethlehem. The check had been written out to Scott Elliot Payne Jr. from Burger King but had been returned as altered/fictitious. Burger King managers stated that they do not and have not had an employee by that name.

– On October 25, 2017, a check in the amount of $781.03 had been cashed at Tom’s Riverside in New Bethlehem. It was written out to Scott Elliott Payne Jr. from Burger King but had been returned as altered/fictitious.

In a separate forgery case, a preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. on November 21 in front of Magisterial District Judge Amy Long Turk.

The criminal case stems from an incident that occurred on September 8, 2017, in Beaver Township.

Payne faces the following charges in this case:

– Forgery – Unauthorized Act In Writing, Misdemeanor 1
– Bad Checks, Misdemeanor 2

According to court documents, a certified summons was issued to Payne on October 16 and was accepted on November 7.
