Man Arrested Following High Speed Police Pursuit in Perry Township

PERRY TWP., Pa. (EYT) – State police say a man was arrested following a high speed police pursuit in Perry Township on Monday.

According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, on Monday, October 14, a traffic stop was initiated on a vehicle for summary traffic violations at Frostburg Road and Sprinkle Mills Road in Perry Township, Jefferson County.

Police say medics were then summoned to the scene to evaluate the driver, a known 68-year-old male. However, the driver refused medical treatment.

According to police, the driver was under investigatory detention for suspicion of DUI when he became confrontational, refusing to comply with the trooper’s commands. He then fled the scene at a high rate of speed, and a pursuit ensued.

Police say that during the pursuit, Stinger Strips were deployed in attempts to deflate the driver’s vehicle tires.

The pursuit reportedly continued for approximately ten miles until the driver was apprehended.

Charges are pending through District Court 54-3-01.

The name of the accused was not released.
