Man Cited for Texting and Driving in Crash that Injured Woman and Child

YOUNG TWP., Pa. (EYT) – State Police say a man is being cited for texting while driving in connection with a crash that injured a Punxsutawney woman and child earlier this month.

Police say around 12:13 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, 21-year-old Lucas P. Mennetti, of Coolspring, was operating a 2005 Hyundai Elantra, traveling south on State Route 36.

At the same time, 31-year-old Catherine V. Huml, of Punxsutawney, was operating a 2008 Saturn Vue, also traveling south on State Route 36.

According to police, Huml slowed for a turning vehicle and Mennetti’s vehicle struck Huml’s vehicle.

Mennetti’s vehicle came to final rest 28 feet from impact, and Huml’s vehicle came to final rest 42 feet from impact.

Mennetti was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

Huml was wearing a seatbelt, and her passenger – a known juvenile – was secured in a front-facing child safety seat.

Huml and her passenger were both transported to the Punxsutawney Area Hospital Emergency Room by Jefferson County EMS for suspected minor injuries.

Mennetti is being cited for texting while driving.

Mennetti’s vehicle was towed from the scene by Rebuck’s South Side Service & Towing.

Jefferson County EMS, Central Fire Department, Elk Run Fire Department, and Lindsay Fire Department assisted at the scene.
