Man Flown to UPMC After Suspected DUI Crash

BURNSIDE TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A man was taken by helicopter to an area hospital after a suspected DUI crash in Burnside Township Saturday.

According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, Andrew J. Rietscha, 23, of Nicktown, Pa., he was driving a 2017 Toyota Camry east on Sylvis Road around 7:42 p.m., Saturday, March 17 when he failed to negotiate a left curve.

The Camry traveled off the south side and hit a residence at 2750 Sylvis Road. It spun 30 degrees before stopping in the residence’s lawn.

Rietscha, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to UPMC Altoona by Stat MedVac II for treatment of major injuries.

The investigation remains open pending further investigation by State Police.

Northern Cambria EMS, Westover Fire Department, Cherrytree Fire Department and Smitty’s Towing assisted at the scene.
