Man Flown to UPMC-Altoona Following Route 36 Crash

BELL TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A 56-year-old man was injured in an accident around 3:40 p.m., on March 3, on State Route 36, in Bell Township, Clearfield County.

According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, Jeffrey L. Lee, 56, of Mahaffey, passed out or blacked out, for unknown medical reasons while driving his 1988 Buick Regal on Colonel Drake highway.

His vehicle left the southbound lane and entered into the oncoming northbound lane of State Route 36.

It then traveled across the northbound lane and collided with a cement bridge barrier, police say.

This impact caused the front driver’s side tire to blow, but the vehicle continued to travel south along the northbound shoulder with the driver’s side in constant contact with the guide rail for approximately 80 feet.

Police say the vehicle then abruptly turned right and traveled back across both lanes and collided with a guide rail on the south shoulder.

Lee’s vehicle came to rest with the front passenger side against the guide rail facing southwest and partially blocking the southbound lane of state route 36.

Lee was using a seat belt.

He suffered injuries of unknown severity and was transported to Altoona Regional Medical Center.

Police were assisted on the scene by Mahaffey Volunteer Fire Department, Jefferson County EMS, and Lifeflight.
