Margaret Ann “Peggy” Parente

Margaret Ann “Peggy” Parente, 91, of Punxsutawney, passed away peacefully at home with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, October 3, 2017.

She was born on May 3, 1926, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Joseph and Virginia (Cimino) Bonadio.

Peggy was a devout Catholic and was a member of Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church, where she was also a member of the C.D.A. (Catholic Daughters of America) as well as the Rosary Society.

On her birthday of May 3rd in 1947, she married her sweetheart, Charles Anthony Parente. He preceded her in death on June 7, 1993.

“Her door was always open” to many friends, neighbors and family, she loved people and always welcomed everyone to sit at her table for coffee and something delicious she had prepared. Cooking was one of her favorite hobbies.

Next to family and friends, she loved the beach. Sunbathing and enjoying the beach was near the top of her list of enjoyments, as well as “Music in the Park” which she attended each week in the summer at Barclay Square. She had a particular fondness of animals, all animals, especially kitties.

She is survived by five children, Paula Coker of CA, Joseph Parente and wife Jane of Punxsutawney, Carla Coker of CA, Gina Mitchell and husband Perry of Punxsutawney, Charles Parente of NM; eight grandchildren, Aaron Bish, Beth Emrick, Julie Scarentine, Rana Coker, Alexis Mitchell, Justin Parente, Briana Sibenac and Christina Pearce; thirteen great-grandchildren, Charlie, Gavin, Justina, Sadey, Cody, Nevaeh, Rylee, Cooper, Christian, Nicholas, Shane, Josie and Layla; one sister, Jeanie Carey of Tonawanda, NY; Marie Lotitto, Linda Riccardo and special friend Kim Laska, all of whom lovingly cared for her.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, a daughter, Mary Ann Bish, two sisters, Marie McGinnis and Pauline Bonadio, three brothers, Tony, Fred and Jimmy Bonadio.

Friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2017, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 6, 2017, at Saints Cosmas and Damian Church, officiated by Monsignor Joseph Riccardo.

Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
