Marilyn Linnea (Johnson) Becker

Marilyn Linnea (Johnson) Becker, age 91, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones, on September 9, 2021 after a lengthy illness.

Born September 11, 1929, in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of Walter and Mabel Johnson.

On July 19, 1952 she married Arnold Becker and they began a memorable life together. Arnie preceded her in death on October 4, 2009. During their 57 years together they moved throughout the country to the states of Illinois, Wisconsin, California, Ohio, West Virginia. In 1964 they settled in Brockway, PA where Marilyn resided until her death. Marilyn and Arnie raised 5 children, four sons and one daughter.

Prior to marrying her boss, Marilyn served as a secretary at Continental Can Co in Chicago.

Marilyn was a stay at home wife and mother while her children were young.

In the early 1970’s she served as the secretary at the Brockway United Presbyterian Church. Later she served as the Church organist until age 89.

In the mid seventies she became an EMT and began her long commitment to the Brockway Ambulance, first as an EMT and later as the dispatcher and administrator. The Ambulance was her first love.

Marilyn was a very accomplished pianist, being offered the opportunity to study at the Chicago Conservatory of Music. Unfortunately because of WW II and the need to work, she had to decline.

She was also a talented seamstress, sewing most of her own clothing and that of her children.

Marilyn was a humanitarian as exemplified by her dedication to the Brockway Ambulance and the Brockway Presbyterian Church. To this she was named Brockway’s first Woman of the Year in 1987.

She also loved animals allowing her children to rescue all kinds of creatures who became members of the Becker family.

Marilyn is survived by her children Wendy Becker Seidel (Jim) of Myrtle Beach, SC; Bruce (Juanita) of Perrysburg, OH; Kurt (Connie) and Mark of Brockway and Craig (Bobbie) of Nazareth, PA.

She was Grandma to 13 grandchildren and Grandma Great to 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, Melvin and Quintin Johnson, and her daughter-in-law Teresa (Mark).

Calling hours will be on Sunday, September 12 from 5PM to 8PM at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 13 at 11AM at the Presbyterian Church in Brockway with Rev. Jeffrey Potter and Rev. Christopher McCloskey officiating.
