Martha Isabelle Jordan Stoops

She was born July 13, 1914, in Oliveburg, a daughter of the late Frank O’Dell Jordan and Bess Mae Galbraith Jordan.

She was married to William Alpheus Stoops who preceded her in death in 2007. They had been married 70 years.

Mrs. Stoops was a member of St. John’s Reformed Church Route 536, Punxsutawney, Pa. and of the Punxsutawney Area Historical & Genealogical Society.

She and her husband both graduated from Punxsutawney High School with the class of 1932.

She was an employee of the former G.C. Murphy Co. in Punxsutawney prior to their marriage in 1936.

Mrs. Stoops is survived by a daughter, Martha Ann Stoops (Mrs. Donald) Armstrong of Punxsutawney, and two granddaughters, Anne Lenore Armstrong (Mrs. Nathan) Lyons of Punxsutawney and Laura Dawn Armstrong (Mrs. James) Schiaffino of Baltimore, Maryland, two sisters-in-law, Mary Rhoades Jordan of Oliveburg and Marjorie Stoops Healy of Port Allegany, Pa., and the following nieces and nephews, Barbara Dickey Gorham, George (Jimmy) Brehmer, Lois Jorden Pryor, Robert Roderick and Jan (Payne), Jon, Kim (Nelson), Kelly, Bonnie and Luke Healy.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, her brother, Wallace Frank Jordan, and her sister, Imogene Lucille Jordan.

Services are in the care of the Brenda Shumaker Funeral Home of Punxsutawney. Visitation were at the funeral home Sunday evening, May 31, and at the Olive Presbyterian Church, Oliveburg, Pennsylvania, Monday morning, June 1, from 10 to 11 am. The funeral service will be held at the church at 11 am to be followed by interment in the Olive Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s Reformed Church or to the Punxsutawney Historical Society.
