Martha Rumbosky

MarthaMartha Rumbosky, 89, former President and CEO of Keystone National Bank, passed away quietly at her home on May 17, 2016, with friends and family by her side.

Martha was born November 14, 1926 in DeLancey, Pa, to the late John and Anna (Gaydos) Gernat. She was married October 31, 1957 to the late Felix “Phil” Rumbosky, who preceded her in death on January 4, 1999. She was a graduate of the Punxsutawney High School, Pennsylvania School of Banking, and the National School of Bank Personnel.

In an era when few women held positions of leadership in the banking industry, Martha was a pioneer. She started her career in 1944 as a cashier with Punxsutawney National Bank, which later became Keystone National Bank. She held several prominent positions, including Vice President, Senior Vice President, and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Her distinguished career reached its pinnacle when she was named the bank’s first female President and CEO.

Martha was also a leader in the community and in her church. She served as Director of the Punxsutawney Chamber of Commerce; Trustee and Treasurer of the Margaret C. Boles Scholarship Foundation; and member of the Executive Committee of the Friends of the Punxsutawney Memorial Library. She was an active member of Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church and served as President of Greek Catholic Union Lodge No. 62. She also served as Division Chairperson for Keystone Tall Tree Council Capital Campaign and Treasurer of the Bucktail Chapter of the March of Dimes. She was a member of the National Association of Bank Women and the American Institute of Banking.

Following her retirement, Martha enjoyed golfing and traveling. But, her greatest joy was spending time with family. She was an inspiration to her family and those who knew her.

She is survived by sisters, Margaret Dubensky of Pittsburgh and Donna Damson of San Diego; nieces and nephews, Richard Gernat, Dennis Gernat, Thomas Dubensky, Maryanne Wesdock, Philip Wesdock, Susan Lainey, Julee Lindberg, John Wesdock, Thomas J. Wesdock, and beloved cousins and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Phil; brothers, Basil and John Gernat; and sisters, Mary “Mamie” Gernat, Sister Thomasine (Irene Gernat), and Catherine Wesdock.

Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, May 20, 2016, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney. A Parastas service will be held at the funeral home on 8:30 p.m., May 20, 2016.

A Funeral Divine Liturgy will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 21, 2016, at Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Punxsutawney celebrated by Father James A. Ragan.

Interment will be in Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made, in memory of Mrs. Rumbosky, to Sisters of St. Basil, 500 West Main Street, Uniontown, PA 15401.
