Martin S. Borza

Martin S. Borza, 92, of Latrobe, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014, at Penn Highlands Hospital, DuBois.

Born October 7, 1921, in Youngstown, he was a son of the late Martin Borza and Anna (Tlumac) Borza.

Martin was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church where he served as an usher. He was retired from Latrobe Steel Company with 43 years of service. As a young man, he had worked as caddy master for Deacon “Deke” Palmer at the Latrobe Country Club. A veteran of WWII, he served with the Army. He had been a member of the B. P. O. Elks #907 and St. Joseph’s Social Club. He enjoyed golfing and gardening, and was a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Penguins as well as the New York Yankees.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Julia F. (Kontor) Borza; four sisters and six brothers.

Martin is survived by one son, Barry Borza, and his wife Beth, of Beaver, PA; one daughter, Bernice Withrow, and her husband Meade, of DuBois, PA; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME, INC., 601 Weldon Street, Latrobe.

Military services will be conducted at 9:15 AM Wednesday in the funeral home by the American Legion Post #515 and VFW Posts #3414 and #444.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Wednesday in St. John the Evangelist Church with the Rev. Anthony Carbone as celebrant.

Entombment will follow at Greensburg Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. John the Evangelist Church, 306 St. John Drive, Latrobe, PA 15650.
