Mary Ann Stevenson

Stevenson MaryMary Ann Stevenson, 89, of New Castle, died early Thursday morning, July 16, 2015 at The Waters of New Castle.

She was born January 6, 1926 in Beechwoods, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Clarence Wray and Eleanor Grace (Smith) Stevenson.

Mary Ann graduated from Beechwoods High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Penn State University in 1948. She worked as a Medical Technician in the lab at Wauseon Hospital in Wauseon, Ohio and then as a Microbiologist, responsible for ensuring food safety, at La Choy Foods in Archbold, OH from 1969 until her retirement in 1988. She enjoyed travel, especially to Europe and the Far East, bridge, golf, sewing and needlework, fishing, and cooking. She and her family attended the Beechwoods Presbyterian Church in her early years and while in New Castle, Mary Ann attended the Mt. Summit Christian Church.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews, Donna (husband: Blaine) Puller of Smethport, PA, Dr. Robert W. (wife: Cathryn) Stevenson of New Castle, Mary Rebecca Stevenson (husband: Robert Kemmerer) of Ridgway, PA, Arthur Barstow, Sr. of Shamong, NJ, Charles Wray Stevenson of DuBois, PA, Nancy Barstow Henkle of NJ, Sara Sinexon Gual (husband: Raul) of Nashua, NH, and many great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her long-time companion, James Gleason; three brothers, James Robert Stevenson, Wray Smith Stevenson, and Herbert Stevenson; two sisters, Priscilla Barstow and Ethel Sinexon and nieces, Anita Butler (husband: John Butler who survives), Olga Brigham and Frona Avery.

Services for Mary Ann will be held at a later date in Pennsylvania with burial in Beechwoods Cemetery.
