Mary Elizabeth DevlinMary Elizabeth Devlin died at her residence May 7, 2017.

Mary Elizabeth was born September 5, 1925 in Brockway to the late Thorton and Gertrude (Bantleon) McGovern.

After graduating from Brockway Area High School she became an R.N. at South Side Hospital School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, PA in 1946.

As a student nurse at South Side, she enrolled in the Cadet Nurse Corp established under the Bolton Act. On May 31, 1947 she married the late Dr. Albert E. Devlin in the Beechwoods Presbyterian Church.

They were happily married for 65 years and were the parents of four children: Elizabeth “Bitsey” A. (Gerald) Robertson of State College, PA; William M. of Erie, PA; Jeffery D. of Ridgefield, CT and Dr. James E. (Diane) Devlin of Brockway, PA. When her children were young she was actively involved in numerous activities including Cub Scouts, little league, band boosters, and the Brockway Wrestling Association.

Later in her life she volunteered at several community organizations including Camp Friendship, Highland View Nursing Home and her church.

Mary Elizabeth was a member of the Brockway Presbyterian Church for 79 years where she served as an Ordained Elder, President of the Board of Trustees and a moderator for the Presbyterian Women’s Association.

She was also active in preparing meals for the Presbyterian Pantry.

Mary Elizabeth was named the 2016 Brockway Woman of the Year in recognition of her years of service to her community, church and family.

Besides her children Mary Elizabeth is survived by a sister, Margaret “Peggy” of State College, PA; three grandchildren: Hillary Reiss (Brian) of Woodridge, IL; Ryan Devlin of Pittsburgh, PA and Megan (Thomas) Bussard of Brockway and four great grandchildren: Samantha and Brandon Reiss & Beckett and Camille Bussard.

Mary Elizabeth was the oldest living descendant of the Brockway Family still residing in the Brockway Community.

Friends will be received from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home in Brockway on Tuesday, May 9th.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 10th at 11:00 AM at the Brockway Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Christopher McCloskey officiating.

Burial will be at Morningside Cemetery in DuBois, PA.
