Mary Florence “Polly” Kruk

Mary Florence “Polly” Kruk, age 82 of DuBois, PA died on Monday, June 27, 2022 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.

Born on October 17, 1939 in the DuBois Hospital, she was the only child of C. Gordon and Florence Hay.

On May 27, 1961 she married her husband of 61 years, Donald J. Kruk. He survives.

Polly graduated from DuBois High School in 1957, then Clarion University in January 1961 and post grad work at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Penn State University.

She taught in Clearfield Area Schools for two years then retired to raise their children, but did substitute teaching for Special Education Students in DuBois for several years.

She was a life member of the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour where she was active in church affairs, having served for many dinners and bazaars.

She was a Girl Scout leader, served on the Board of the local American Red Cross and served on the Board of the DuBois Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.

She also was a member of the Gateway Investment Club and a member of the Monday Night Readers Club.

She loved all animals and felt that they were all of God’s Creatures.

To her, no cat or dog was ever ugly.

She enjoyed hand sewing, reading and crossword puzzles.

Polly is survived by her children: Dr. K. Dawn Luvaas and her husband Donnie Weis of St. Marys, PA, Dr. Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Jones and her husband Mark of Treasure Lake; and her grandchildren: Scott Flick and wife Jackie and son Donald of Williamsport, PA, Dr. Sarah Flick of Newton, MA, and Deric Luvaas of Pittsburgh, PA.

She is also survived by her brothers-in-law John E. Kruk and his wife Kay, Greg Kruk, Dr. Steve Kruk and his wife Rita and a sister-in-law Mary L. Siemuchia.

She also was an Equestrian and a Synchronized Swimmer.

She learned both of these activities as a youth while attending summer camp for several years in Have de Grace, Maryland.

When the DuBois Country Club opened their newly constructed swimming pool in the early fifties, Polly and one other swimmer provided a synchronized show for the event.

Polly treasured her times spent with her children and grandchildren and great grandchild.

She loved her friends and especially her Pool Family.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022 from 2 – 4 PM and 6 – 8 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 10 AM from the Church of Our Saviour with Father Tim Kroh as celebrant.

Burial will take place in the Morningside Cemetery.
