Mary L. Austin

photo_201304_17881186_1_17881186_20140810Mary L. Austin, 85, of Cooksburg, PA, passed away early the morning of Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at Clarion Hospital.

Formerly of Gibsonia, PA, Mary was born March 24, 1929, in Dormont, PA, the daughter of John Thomas and Anne (O’Donnell) Garvey. She was united in marriage on April 25, 1953, to Edwin R. Austin, who preceded her in death September 10, 1989. While living in Gibsonia, Mary worked at St. Barnabas Nursing Home and Richland High School Cafeteria. After moving to Marienville in 1990, she worked for the U.S. Forest Service, served as Secretary/Treasurer for Barnett Township in Forest County for 18 years and worked at Kwikfill in Marienville for several years.

Surviving are a daughter, Pamela J. Eck and her husband, Adam, of Cooksburg; a granddaughter, Ashley E. Eck of Cooksburg; and a grandson, Edwin S. Eck and his fiancée, Emillie Myers, of Butler.

Additional survivors include two great grandchildren, Camillie and Edwin S. Eck, Jr. of Butler, and a third great-grandchild soon to be born; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas E. Garvey, Michael Garvey, and William Garvey.

As per Mary’s request, there will be no public visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ann’s Church in Marienville on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at 10 a.m. with Father Christopher Barnes, Pastor, as celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mary’s name to the Marienville Area Library or the Marienville Food Bank.

The RONALD McDONALD FUNERAL HOME, in Marienville has been entrusted to handle the arrangements.
