Mary Lou Griffith

Mary Lou Griffith, age 86, of Plumville, died Monday, September 22, 2014 at Beacon Ridge Nursing Home. She was born in 1928 in Banks Twp., to Earl and Sarah Tyger Lewis.

Mrs. Griffith attended the Old Mahoning Baptist Church for many years. She was employed by the Marion Center Schools as a cook/cafeteria manager for 24 years, and had been working at the Rayne Elementary School where she was known as
the “Tooth Fairy Pillow Lady.”

Mary enjoyed camping. She and Neil were members of the Good Sam’s Club. They wintered in Florida for many years and volunteered at the Word of Life Bible Institute.

Mary Lou is survived by two children – Robert Doty and wife Vicky, Blairsville; Sharon Doty and life partner Dennis Plummer, Arnold, MD; two grandchildren – Christina Doty, Baltimore, MD; Kevin Doty and wife Jenny, Camp Carroll, South Korea; two step-granchildren – Abby and Emily Plummer.

She is also survived by six step-children – Carol Weaver and husband Paul, Home; Donna Brubaker and husband Tom, Indiana; Richard Griffith, Indiana; Roger Griffith, Indiana; Joyce Peightal and husband Al, Butler; Dennis Griffith, Marion Center; 14 step-granchildren; 16 step-great grandchildren.

Additionally, she is survived by two brothers and three sisters – David Lewis and wife Thelma, Lewisbury; Phillip “Pete” Lewis and wife Mary Lou, Phoenix, AZ; Jeanne Ryan, Rochester Mills; Doris Emaline “Emmy” Shiperly, Butler; Brenda “Rosie” Hicks and husband Allen “Bud,” Trade City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Neil Griffith, and by her baby sister, Blanche Lewis.

Friends will be received on Wednesday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, and on Thursday from 10 to 11 A.M. at the Old Mahoning Baptist Church, 5225 Mahoning Rd., Home, PA where a funeral service will begin at 11 A.M. with the Rev. Micah McMillen officiating. Interment will be made in the Smicksburg Cemetery.
