READING, Pa. – Austin Meadows tied the franchise record by collecting a hit in his 21st consecutive game as the Altoona Curve fell to the Reading Fightin Phils, 2-1, on Sunday evening at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Meadows doubled in the eighth inning to extend his hitting streak to 21 games, matching the record originally set by Kevin Sefcik back in 2002.
Altoona (33-29) went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base all together while Reading (45-19) continues to hold the best record in minor league baseball and won its seventh straight contest.
Reading’s Jesmuel Valentine drove home the game-winning runs for the Fightin Phils with a bases-loaded, two-run, walk-off single into left field against Altoona reliever Brett McKinney (Loss, 1-2) to clinch the Fightins sweep over the Curve.
Altoona scored the first run of the game in the top of the eighth inning on a wild pitch by Gregory Infante to score Harold Ramirez and give the Curve a 1-0 lead.
Cody Dickson tossed five shutout innings, allowing three hits while walking three and striking out five. Since May 7, Dickson is 5-0 with a 1.13 ERA in his seven starts.
Nick Pivetta scattered three hits over seven shutout innings to accompany three walks and four strikeouts for Reading.
Ramirez paced the offense for the Curve, going 3-for-3 day with a run scored and a walk.
The Curve will enjoy an off day on Monday before returning to PNG Field for the first of a three-game series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. start time.
