Medical Emergency Triggers Crash in Brookville, Driver Flown to Altoona Hospital

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – Brookville Borough Police say they were dispatched by Jefferson County 911 around 8:57 a.m. this morning to respond to Main Street, in front of Tonell’s Jewelry Store, for a motor vehicle accident with injuries.

According to police, Russell Mauk, of Coolspring, and Dickson Tattersall, of Brookville, were involved in the collision.

Police say when they arrived, Mauk was having a medical emergency and was transported by Jefferson County EMS to Brookville Hospital’s Helipad where he was transported by Stat MedEvac to Altoona Hospital.

Tattersall was sore, but he was not injured nor was he treated at the scene, according to police.

It was determined through two witnesses that Mauk’s vehicle began to speed up as it approached the intersection with Main Street from Pickering Street, police say.

It was also reported that he may have suffered a medical emergency which caused his vehicle to accelerate toward the intersection where it collided with Tattersall’s vehicle, according to police.

Both parties were wearing their seat belts.

Both vehicles sustained moderate damage.

The accident caused damage to the traffic light at Main and Pickering Street; traffic control was provided by Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.

Brookville Police would like to thank the following agencies who assisted: Pennsylvania State Police; Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department; Brookville Volunteer Fire Department; Jefferson County EMS; and McPherson Towing.

The scene was cleared at 10:04 a.m.
