Mervin Edgar “Mervie” Himes, 86 of Mayport, PA, died Saturday June 6, 2015 at the Snyder Memorial Health Care Center in Marienville, PA.
Born May 17, 1929 in Brookville, PA, he was the son of the late Mervin William and Elizabeth Smith Himes.
Mervin attended elementary school in Heathville and high school in Brookville, PA. He was first married to Dorothy L. Welsh Mauk, she survives in Brookville. He later married A. Marie Mathews in 1965 at the EUM Church in Brookville, she preceded him in death on January 21, 1997. Mervin was employed as a federal mine inspector working out of Pittsburgh until he retired in 1991. His hobbies included farming and John Deere Tractors.
Mervin is survived by a son, Scott (Cathy) Himes of Mayport; four daughters, Bev Hoffman of Brookville, Karen Pangallo of Brookville, Deb (Rich) Yates of Maidens, VA, Pam Fyock of Brookville; two brothers, Paul (Vickey) Brown of Brookville, Fred (Karen) Brown of Edinboro, PA; a sister; Nedra Windsor of Edinboro; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Along with his parents and wife Mervin is preceded in death by a son Larry “Butch” Himes, and a grandson, Cody Fyock.
His family will receive friends on Tuesday June 9, 2015 from 1 – 2 pm at the Furlong Funeral Home, Gregory K. Furlong FD, corner of Broad St. and First Ave., Summerville. A service will follow at 2 pm. with Rev. Ray Baker officiating.
Interment will be in the Smith Cemetery, Beaver Twp., Jefferson County, PA.
