Michaelk D. BarrettMichael D. Barrett, 58, of Strattanville, died Friday, June 5, 2015 at the Clarion Hospital after bravely battling MS for more than 30 years.

Born December 24, 1956 in Nampa, Idaho, he was the son of William E. Barrett and Betty A. Needham Barrett.

Michael was a 1975 graduate of Borah High School in Boise, Idaho.

He also was a graduate of Boise State University in 1981 and obtained his M.S. degree in Computer Information Science from Texas Tech University in 1983. He was hired that same year at Clarion University as Assistant Professor, in the Department of Computer Information Science. In the school years 1995-96 he became the Chairman of the Department of Computer Information Science.

Michael was of the Christian faith and when he saw someone with a need for whom he could make a difference, he did that. His interests included computers and caring for his pine trees.

Along with his mother, Betty, Michael is survived by three brothers; Steve (Sharon) Barrett of Lake Oswego, Oregon, David (Jannyce) Barrett of Boise, Idaho, Tim Barrett of Boise, Idaho, a sister; Christine (Russell) Halstead of Lockport, NY, and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday June 9, 2015 at 11 am at the Tree Trimmers Rest Cemetery near North Pine Grove/Vowinckel, PA with Pastor Jim Steingass officiating.

Interment will be in the Tree Trimmers Rest Cemetery, Farmington Twp., Clarion County, PA.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Furlong Funeral Home at the corner of Broad St. and 1st Ave., Summerville, PA.
