Needing eight points to break the record, Miknis had seven points halfway through the second quarter and was awarded two free throw shots after drawing a foul. He drained the first shot to break the record.

“Probably the best free throw of my life,” Miknis said. “It felt so good out of the hand and swished nothing but net.”

Brandon Walker had a game-high 24 points for DCC, all in the first half, including six 3-pointers thanks to Miknis’ ability to get him the ball.

“Justin was very unselfish,” DCC head coach Dom Varacallo said. “He let other people shine by facilitating earlier. Brandon Walker had 24 points in the first half and it was partially because of Justin’s unselfishness.”

Miknis now has 1,425 career points topping the previous school mark of 1,412 set by Chris Marshall in 2011. Marshall has been one of Miknis’ coaches since his freshman year.

“It’s a great honor,” Miknis said. “Coach Marshall has been working with me since freshman year and has really helped me to become who I am today.”
