Miknis, Grecco, Prosper Lead DCC to Saturday Win


DUBOIS, Pa. (D9Sports) – Behind strong offensive production from Justin Miknis, Thomas Grecco and Garrett Prosper DuBois Central Catholic moved to a 5-0 on the season with a 15-5, six-inning win over visiting West Shamokin.

Grecco drove in a game-high four runs with Miknis adding three RBIs and Prosper four hits for the Cardinals.

Miknis was 1-for-4 with a triple, a walk and a run scored, Grecco was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored and Prosper was 4-for-4 with two RBIs and four runs scored.

Also for DCC, Noah Bloom went 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs, Domenic Toretti doubled, walked, scored twice and drove in a run and Brandon Walker had a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Brendon Monde had a double and three RBIs for West Shamokin.

Bloom got the win in relief of Anthony Kness going three scoreless innings allowing a hit and two walks while striking out six. Kness pitched three innings giving up five runs, one earned, on three hits and four walks while striking out four.

WILLIAMSPORT 10, PUNXSUTAWNEY 0, 6 INNINGS

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Kyle Caringi and Cody Shimp combined on a six-hit shutout to give visiting Williamsport a 10-0, six-inning win over Punxsutawney.

Caringi went four innings allowing three hits and a walk while striking out six. Shimp then pitched two innings allowing three hits while striking out five.

Quentin Brown and Joe Fagnano each went deep for the Millionaires with Tanner Esposito and Cameron Pardoe adding doubles.

Brown was 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs, Fagnano went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs, Esposito was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Pardoe 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI.

Six different Chucks accounted for the hits while Brandon Matthews took the loss.

Matthews gave up nine runs, five earned, on eight hits and two walks while striking out three in 2 ⅔ innings of work.

JOHNSONBURG/CURWENSVILLE SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Johnsonburg and Coudersport split a doubleheader at Curwensville with the Rams taking Game One, 5-2, before Curwensville bounced back to win Game Two, 5-0.

In Game One, Ben Freeburg had a pair of RBIs, Austin Green went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Neil MacDonald had a double and three runs scored to pace the Johnsonburg offense.

Green also picked up the save in relief of Gavin Elmquist.

Elmquist went four innings allowing two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out four to get the win. Green then pitched the final three innings allowing a pair of hits while striking out five.

Avery Francisco and Bryce Timko each had two hits and an RBI for Curwensville with Francisco doubling and scoring a run.

Francisco took the loss going 5 ⅔ innings allowing five runs, three earned, on six hits and three walks while striking out four. Jake McCracken pitched 1 ⅓ scoreless innings allowing a hit while striking out two.

In the nightcap, with Johnsonburg acting as the home team, Timko three six innings of one-hit ball walking six and striking out eight before McCracken went a scoreless seventh giving up a hit while striking out two to combine on a two-hit shutout in the 5-0 Golden Tides win.

Timko also drove in a pair of runs going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Josh Terry also doubled while going 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Gabe Watts took the loss going five innings allowing two runs, both earned, on five hits and three walks while striking out eight.

CLEARFIELD 8, TYRONE 7

TYRONE, Pa. – Visiting Clearfield built a six-run lead then survived a five-run sixth by Tyrone to pull out an 8-7 Mountain League win.

The Bison had a pair of four-run innings in building an 8-2 lead through 5 ½ scoring four in the third and four in the fifth.

Nathan Barr led an eight-hit attack for Clearfield going 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Eli Glass was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, Seth Bumbarger was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Jakob Sobera was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Andrew Pearson tripled and drove in two for Tyrone.

Sorbera got the win going five-plus innings allowing five runs, none earned, on five hits and a walk while striking out two. Reese Wilson picked up the save giving up two runs, both unearned, on two hits and a walk while striking out two.

None of the 15 runs in the game were earned with Cory Lehman and Micah Woomer both giving up four unearned runs apiece for Tyrone.

SOFTBALL

WILLIAMSPORT 8, DUBOIS 3, 9 INNINGS

DUBOIS, Pa. – A five-run ninth inning by Williamsport spoiled a strong seventh-inning comeback by DuBois which fell to the visiting Lady Millionaires, 8-3.

The game was scoreless until the sixth when Williamsport scored three times to take a 3-0 lead but DuBois fought back in the bottom of the seventh forcing extra inning with three runs in the inning before losing it in the ninth.

Maddy Ho had the big hit in the seventh for the Lady Beavers with a two-run triple. Lexi Ray was also 2-for-4 for DuBois.

Sarah Snyder took the loss in relief of Molly Nosker. Snyder gave up five runs in 3 ⅔ innings of work on five hits and four walks while striking out one. Nosker went 5 ⅓ innings allowing three runs on nine hits and walk while striking out two.

Avery Eiswerth was 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored for Williamsport.
