Mildred I. Johnston

Mildred I. Johnston, 89, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, January 17, 2015, at DuBois Nursing Home.

She was born March 7, 1925, in Bradford Township, Clearfield County, a daughter of the late Laura (Graham) and John Shomo.

On October 7, 1940, she married Merle E. Johnston, who preceded her in death in May of 1984.

She was a member of the Chestnut Grove Independent Church.

She enjoyed going to church, cooking, baking, doing puzzles, and reading.

Surviving relatives include six children, Janet Martin of Punxsutawney, Edward Johnston of Punxsutawney, Thomas Johnston and wife Helen of Big Run, Robert Johnston of Mayport, Stanley Johnston and wife Denise of Big Run, and Martin Johnston of Falls Creek; seventeen grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; nine sisters, Jean Bain, Pearl Smith, Eleanor Trimble, Rose Gearhart, Edith Goon, Joann Pianelli, Joan Coble, and Phyllis Witman; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a great grandson Nicholas Kauffman; and a sister Beverly Buck.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at the funeral home, with Pastor Joe Spack officiating.

Interment will be at Pleasant Hill U.B. Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in memory of Mrs. Johnston, may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1128 State St., Ste 301, Erie, PA 16501.
