Mildred Joy Aikins

Joy AikinsMildred Joy Aikins 88, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at McKinley Health Center in Brookville, PA.

Mildred was born on November 15, 1928 in Summerville, PA to Edgar and Rebecca (Cyphert) Klouse of Summerville.

She graduated from Clarion-Limestone High School in 1945.

She was married on December 11, 1945 to Lawrence W. Aikins Jr. by Rev. Rudolph Panciera at the Pleasant Hill Bible Church. They were married 58 years at the time of Larry’s death in April of 2003.

Joy and Larry enjoyed traveling and had been to all the states but Hawaii.

Joy was a homemaker for most of her life but worked off and on as a beautician.

She was a long time member and Past President of the Ladies Auxillary of FOE in New Bethlehem and Brookville.

Joy is survived by four children, E. Rebecca Holland of Summerville, Edgar F. Aikins and wife Diane of Cleona, PA, Wanda Sarvey of Summerville, and Larry N. Aikins and wife Pam of Mayport PA.; eight grandchildren, Kris Bojalad (John) of DuBois, John Holland (Cheri) of Strattanville, Lorie DeLucia of Lancaster, Mike DeLucia of Mt Joy, PA, Robert Sarvey Jr. (Tammy)of Lewistown, Brian Sarvey of Summerville, Larry Aikins (Jodie) of Hermitage and Michelle Lingenfelter of Brookville. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren and one sister Shirley Clinger (Robert) of Summerville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son, and two son-in-laws; John Holland and Robert Sarvey, also three sisters, Louise Bowser, Trudy Ferguson, and Gloria Oakley.

She will be sadly missed by many loving nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Her family will receive friends on Friday, April 28, 2017 from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm and Saturday, April 29, 2017 10 – 11 am at the Furlong Funeral Home, (www.furlongfuneralhome.com), Gregory K. Furlong FD, corner of Broad St. and First Ave., Summerville, PA.

The funeral service will follow at 11 am with Pastor Jay Bucci officiating.

Interment will be in West View Cemetery, Clover Twp. Jefferson Co.

The family would like to thank WRC Hospice Services, especially Ernie Anderson R.N. and the staff of Memory Support at McKinley Health Center for all their loving care of our mom in her final month and weeks.
