Mona Jean Allenbaugh

Mona Jean Allenbaugh, 88, of Punxsutawney, passed away Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

Mrs. Allenbaugh was born Aug. 18, 1927, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Theodore and Zoe (Stear) Redding. Mona was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur D. Allenbaugh Sr.

She was a member of the First Church of God, where she started the food pantry and taught Sunday school. She also led Bible study at Mahoning Towers. Mona authored five books of faith, family and belief and also wrote poetry. She loved working outdoors in her flower garden and adored her grandchildren and her great-grandson.

She is survived by a son, Arthur D. Allenbaugh Jr. and wife Thelma of Arkansas; two daughters, Linda Allenbaugh and Debby Montgomery, both of Punxsutawney; five grandchildren, Christopher Montgomery, Jason Montgomery and wife Hannah and Joey, Deborah and Mary Lee Allenbaugh; a great-grandson, Dean Montgomery; and several nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Arthur, she was preceded in death by a brother, John C. Redding.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at the First Church of God, where a service will be held at 4 p.m., with Pastor Greg Smith officiating. Interment is private for family. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in Mrs. Allenbaugh’s name to the First Church of God Food Pantry.

Arrangements are under the direction of the McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney.
