Monday’s HS Softball Roundup: Brookville Downs DuBois, 4-2

DUBOIS, Pa. (D9Sports) – Visiting Brookville continued its string of good play winning for the sixth time in seven tries with a 4-2 victory at DuBois.

Hannah Kirkwood led the way for the Lady Raiders, who beat DuBois for the first time since 2005 according to head coach Carl McManigle, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Carlie McManigle also had a hit and a run scored as did Maggie Miller.

McManigle got the win allowing two runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out three.

Maddie Smith paced DuBois going 2-for-3 and scoring both runs for the Lady Beavers.

Sarah Snyder suffered the loss allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits and a walk while striking out six.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 10, BRADFORD 0, 5 INNINGS

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Grace Aikens went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run while driving in three and scoring once to help Punxsutawney to a 10-0, five-inning win over visiting Bradford.

Olivia Weaver added a pair of hits and two runs scored for the Lady Chucks, while Morgan Adamson had a double, drove in two and scored once.

Alli Ishman threw a three-hit, five-inning shutout. She walked one and struck out five.

Hannah Woodel had a double for Bradford.

Kaylee Brown took the loss allowing 10 runs, four earned, on nine hits and a walk while striking out two.

HUNTINGDON 7, CLEARFIELD 6

HYDE, Pa. – In search of its first win, Clearfield had the tying run thrown out at the plate for the final out of the game, as the Lady Bison fell to visiting Huntingdon, 7-6.

Down two going to the bottom of the seventh, Clearfield loaded the bases with one out before Lindsay Hand delivered a base hit that scored pinch runner Makeeli Redden. But courtesy runner Maddie Lewis was cut down at the plate on a throw from Huntingdon right fielder Natalee Singler to end the game.

Hannah Heintzelman had a triple, a home run and three runs scored to lead the Lady Bear Cats offense, while Leah Reed added three-run, fourth-inning home run for the Lady Bearcats and Destiny Beamesderfer had a pair of singles.

Brooke Cline had two single and two RBIs while running her hit streak to nine games for Clearfield. Abby Fedder and Lindsay Hand each had a pair of singles and Erica Hanes joined Cline with a two-run single in the fourth.

Catherine Miller got the win going seven innings allowing six runs on 10 hits and five walks while striking out seven.

Fedder took the loss going seven innings as well allowing seven runs, only three earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out six.

KARNS CITY 9, FOREST AREA 4

TIONESTA, Pa. – Alyssa Stitt, Makala Bailey and Mackenzie Dunn each drove in a pair of runs to lead visiting Karns City to a 9-4 win over Forest Area.

Dunn hit a home run for the Lady Gremlins while Stitt was 3-for-4 with a run scored. Bailey was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Taylor Ekis also had a pair of hits and a run scored for Karns City as did Emily Wolfe.

Cassie Cochran was 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI to lead Forest Area.

The game was tied at three until the fifth when Karns City scored twice. The Lady Gremlins then added four in the sixth.

Logan Byers got the win in relief allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out five.
