BUTLER CO., Pa. (EYT) – Another arrest has been made in the case of a 4-year-old Butler County boy who police say died last week as a result of a sexual assault by his mother’s boyfriend.
According to online court documents, MacKenzie Paige Peters, 21, of Butler, has been charged with two counts of Endangering Welfare of Children – Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense, a third-degree felony.
Peters is the mother of 4-year-old Bentley Thomas Miller, who police say was the victim of a horrendous assault that resulted in his death March 21.
According to a published article in butlereagle.com, Butler Township police arrested Peters on Thursday, March 30. She was arraigned and later released on $25,000.00 unsecured bail.
Investigators said that Peters “failed to seek appropriate medical treatment” for a “severe burn” Bentley suffered to the top of his hand and wrist while in the care her boyfriend, Keith Jordan Lambing.
Peters’s previous legal trouble included drug offenses, shoplifting, and driving without a license.
According to a previous story on exploreclarion.com, the Butler County District Attorney’s office said it will likely seek the death penalty against Lambing, the man who has been charged in the brutal murder of a four-year-old boy.
According to a published article on triblive.com, County Prosecutor Richard Goldinger said it’s likely that his office will see the ultimate punishment against Lambing, who is charged with homicide, rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, and reckless endangerment in the death of Bentley Miller.
Goldinger said the child died as the result of a sexual assault.
According to Goldinger, his office would review the case and make a decision after the preliminary hearing that is scheduled for April 20.
According to a previous article on exploreclarion.com, Lambing’s mother, 43-year-old Kristen Herold, of Wexford, was charged on Friday with the following offenses:
– Hindering Apprehension/Prosecution-Providing Aid, Felony 3
– Hindering Apprehension/Prosecution-Providing False Information Law Enforcement Officer, Felony 3
– Endangering Welfare of Children-Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense, Misdemeanor 1
– Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Misdemeanor 2
Unable to post $200,000.00 monetary bail, she was lodged in the Butler County Jail.
Herold was taking Miller to his father’s house on Tuesday morning after Lambing called her and said the child needed medical attention.
When Bentley lost consciousness, she called 911 and pulled into a parking lot where paramedics and police responded. Paramedics performed CPR on Bentley before taking him to Butler Memorial Hospital where he later died.
The Butler County Coroner’s office ruled Bentley’s death a homicide after an autopsy was performed. He had cuts and bruises on his body.
Lambing was later found hiding with Herold.
According to Goldinger, Lambing and Peters were staying at a Super 8 Motel with Bentley and their four-month-old infant.
Goldinger said that Peters was at work, and Lambing was watching Bentley.
The four-month-old infant is in the custody of Butler County Children, Youth, and Family Services.
